Espevær
Espevær
Already the way to Espevær is exciting. You leave your car in the parking lot at the port and continue with the Espevær Expressen, a small ferry boat. Arrived on the island you will find a small quiet harbor. Accompanied by bird songs, you stroll through the picturesque lanes and experience your own small world without cars, without noise and without hustle and bustle. After a short ascent to the point of supervision, you will be rewarded with a magnificent view over the island. At the southern end you will find an interesting sight - the Hummerpark. Here you can see how since 1887 lobsters are bred and learn about the life of the animals. Espevær is home to countless small islets that can only be reached by boat. Only a small neighbor is accessible by cable. Here you are pulled on a small red platform to the other side. Before you go back, you can taste an ice cream at the harbor and decide the day.
Halsnøy Monastery
Halsnøy Monastery
The former Augustine monastery Halsnøy is definitely worth a visit. It was founded by Erling Skakke in 1164, and remains of ruins are still visible today. The monastery complex also includes a courtyard from 1841. The beautifully landscaped park is surrounded by ancient lime trees and the quiet views of the Hardangerfjord can be admired in quiet seating areas. Here the idea of how the life of the monks might have looked alive. During the subsequent tour of the Hofgut, the visitor accompanies the smell of coffee and freshly baked waffles, which can be eaten in a historic setting.
